Ship an in-app community in a day of dev work.

The Octopus SDK adds a fully branded community to your app, backend and frontend included.

  • Octopus runs the infrastructure, AI and human moderation, push notifications and analytics.
  • Once it is live, there is nothing for your team to run or maintain. No backlog.
Integration flows between your app, your backend and Octopus Your backend signs a short-lived JWT for the signed-in user. The Octopus SDK in your app exchanges it for a session with the Octopus cloud and loads the community. Optionally, your backend calls the Connect API, server to server, to read and publish content. What your team builds, what Octopus runs.

Four tasks for your team, all in your existing code. Octopus runs everything else. QA, code review and the store release follow your usual process.

Member stays a guest after connectUser() in sandbox. Any idea?

Your backend signs the JWT with the production secret. Swap in the sandbox one and you are set.

That was it, working now. Thanks for the quick answer!

A light SDK that never forces an update.

Designed from day one to stay out of your way: lightweight, stable and backward compatible. Integrate it once, then upgrade only when you want a new feature.

0

Mandatory updates, ever

Every past SDK version stays compatible over time.

~10 MB

Light by design

Optimized code, no heavy components and no bundled images.

20 years

Of mobile experience, on average

Built by mobile engineers who have shipped apps and games for two decades.

A safe community, with no moderation work on your side.

AI reviews all content published by your audience. Edge cases go to human moderation experts at Octopus.

Rules built for your audience

Regulated industries and multilingual feeds. Trusted by apps in enterprise, health, VPN and for young audiences.

Human experts on edge cases

Ambiguous content is reviewed by Octopus moderators.

Rules updated in minutes

Tighten tolerance at any time, no app release needed.

Full visibility

Every moderation decision and its reason, in your dashboard.

Moderation flow Every member post goes through an AI check with your rules. Three outcomes: it is published, it goes to an Octopus human expert as an edge case, or it is not published. Member posts text, image, poll AI check your custom rules Published safe content goes live Edge case an Octopus expert decides Not published blocked before anyone sees it

Your community, your data.

Pull everything your community produces into your own tools, and push content into it from your systems, through a REST API. No lock-in.

Pull · REST API

Export everything, anytime

All posts, comments, replies, reactions, poll results and member profiles, as JSON. For your warehouse, your BI, your CRM or a GDPR request.

Pull · REST API

Social content on your own screens

Show community posts next to a product, a lesson, a level or on your website.

Pull · CRM

Richer user profiles

Feed engagement signals into your CRM for segments and campaigns.

Push · REST API

Publish from your own systems

Create and schedule posts from your backend or CMS, for a product launch, a new lesson or a match result.

Everything a community needs, already built.

Features your team would otherwise spend months building and maintaining. All included in the SDK.

Push notifications

Managed by Octopus, with frequency rules so your users are never spammed.

Analytics for your team

Engagement, retention by cohort and sentiment, in your dashboard or your database.

Gamification

Badges and levels, configured, not coded.

Instant translation

Every post readable in every member's language.

Video

Video posts from your dashboard, hosted and streamed by Octopus.

Customization

Your colors, fonts and logo, and each feature switched on or off: polls, images, video, comments.

Ads in the feed

Monetize the community with sponsored native posts in the feed.

Web version

A read-only version of the community on your own domain, indexed by search engines.

Built for the security teams reviewing the hardest apps.

Health, VPN and enterprise apps run Octopus with millions of users. Your data is hosted on AWS in the EU, in Paris with backups in Ireland. You decide how long it stays and who sees it.

GDPR compliant

Your data, your rules

You stay the data controller and Octopus acts as processor. Retention follows your policy, and an EU-only mode is available for regulated apps.

Minimal personal data

Identity stays with your SSO. Octopus stores no credentials and needs no email.

Access under control

Role-based access for your team in the dashboard, TLS 1.3 in transit and encryption at rest.

The questions your team will ask.

More answers in the docs.

Can we try it before committing?

Yes. We give you a sandbox community and its API key, so your team can integrate and test in a dev build before anything reaches production.

How much does the SDK add to our app size?

Around 10 MB as an order of magnitude, but treat it as an estimate: the real impact depends on your platform, on the libraries your app already ships (shared dependencies are not counted twice), on your build settings and on the shrinking and app-thinning steps of your pipeline. The safest way to know is to measure it on your own build with the sandbox SDK.

Do we have to maintain anything after launch?

No. We host and run the backend, moderation and push. SDK updates are optional: you upgrade when you want a new feature.

Can we measure the impact on retention?

Yes. Run the community against a control group, with your own feature flag or our built-in holdout, and compare retention in your analytics.

How do community events reach our analytics?

The SDK emits events in the app, without a user ID. You forward them to Amplitude, Mixpanel or your warehouse with your own user ID, so they line up with the rest of your data.

Can posts link to our own screens?

Yes. Links in posts and comments come back to your app, custom schemes included. You can also attach a discussion to a product, a level or a lesson.

Can we keep some groups for premium or specific users?

Yes. Your backend adds entitlements to the token it signs, and gated groups open only to the users who have them.

Where is the data? Are you GDPR compliant?

Data is hosted on AWS in the EU, in Paris, with backups in Ireland. Octopus is GDPR compliant and acts as your processor, under a DPA published online. For sensitive verticals such as health, we can run in EU-only mode.

See it running in your app this week.
